The world famous chardham yatra in the valley of Himalaya were already started to close as the Kedarnath and Yamunotri are already been closed on 28th of October on the occasion of Bhaiya Duj for the winter season. Before looking the door of kedarnath, the main priest of the temple performs special prayers. The doors were closed in the presence of religious leaders and senior administrative officials. Huge number of pilgrims was present in the the temple premises to witness the closing ceremony. The idol of Lord Shiva was already been placed to a nearby town, Ukhimath, as usual. Every year the idol of Shiva sifted here as winter sojourn.
Another important shrine, Yamunotri was also closed for pilgrims as reportedly the shrine of Badrinath would close of 17th of November. The closing of Badrinath portals symbolizes end of chardham yatra of current year.
The whole Himalayan region is covered with snow during winter, so in every year all the four shrines of chardham circuit Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath are closed in October – November and reopen in the month of April-May on the occasion of Ashay Tritya.
