Jim Corbett National Park is a fantastic place and bird watching is a treat over here. When I reached Corbett, I had all the expectations of having a great time with my old friends – birds, and of all species. I had read before coming here that the park inhabits more than 600 species of birds, and I now I was about to explore the golden opportunity of actually seeing the nature's fantastic offspring's. The commonly found peacock looked so different in this heavenly place. I call it heavenly as this was perhaps what the God in heaven must have created before we humans transformed it into something very different.
Other birds like the Jungle Fowl, partridge, Kaleej Pheasant, crow, vulture, parakeet, Laughing Thrush, oriole, kingfisher, drongo, dove, woodpecker, duck, teal, stork, cormorant and seagull were a treat to my eyes that had only seen the homely sparrow in the name of birds. Seeing the beautiful Cormorants, the Darter, the Grey Heron, Egrets, the Cattle Egret, the White-necked and Black-necked Storks, the Spotbill, the Large Pied Wagtail and White-capped Redstart was a very novel experience for me. So many beautiful colours in such wonderful shapes had never crossed from my eyes.
The guide told me that the migrant species of water-birds in the Corbett National Park include the Great Crested Grebe, Graylag Geese, White Storks, Black Storks, Sandpipers, Snipe, the Great Black-headed Gull, about 15 kinds of ducks, and a variety of Wagtails.
After seeing all that beauty, only a portion of which could register in my mind -- so much was I in awe of the place and its inhabitants – I can only say that everyone should at least visit the place ones. For ornithologists and bird lovers, they don't know what they can find here. And for those who say nature has nothing for them, I recommend them to visit the park and then decide what is beauty – is it the man-,made lights and colors or these lively colors that walk and fly and even sing. I am sure no one wants any more for peace and beauty.
